Universal Pictures has entered into a two-year, first-look production agreement with Elizabeth Banksand Max Handelman’s Brownstone Prods.

The deal was announced with Universal gearing up to open “Pitch Perfect 2,” which Banks directed, starred in and produced, on May 15.  Co-presidents of production Peter Cramer and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum made the announcement.

Banks also produced and starred in “Pitch Perfect,” a surprise hit in 2013. Handelman and Banks have been married since 2003.

“Not only is Elizabeth an incredibly gifted actress, but she and Max have done a great job producing the ‘Pitch Perfect’ franchise, and her work directing ‘Pitch 2′ has resulted in a simply outstanding film,” said Cramer.  “They are a formidable team, and we are thrilled to formalize our long-standing relationship with them by welcoming Brownstone to our lot.”

Brownstone is developing two projects for Lionsgate — a film based on the book “White Girl Problems” and an adaptation of Ally Carter’s “Heist Society.” The company has teamed with Paramount Digital Entertainment on the comedy series “Resident Advisors” for Hulu to premiere in the spring.

Brownstone also produced the 2009 Disney sci-fier “Surrogates,” starring Bruce Willis and Rosamund Pike, and is developing a live-action feature based on the character Tinkerbell for Disney.

Universal has nearly 30 first-look deals, including pacts with Jason Bateman, Jason Blum and Vince Vaughn as well as Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine.

Brownstone Productions’ offices will relocate to the Universal lot. It was represented in the deal by Untitled Entertainment, UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.

Modern Family will once again feature two familiar spices: Sal and Pepper.

Elizabeth Banks and Nathan Lane are slated to return to the ABC family comedy, EW has learned. In the episode, which is slated to air next month, Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) set out to throw a belated baby shower for wild-child-turned-mom Sal (Banks) with the help of master party planner Pepper (Lane).

Banks, the Hunger Games star who directed the upcoming Pitch Perfect 2, and Lane, who has a recurring role on The Good Wife, have popped up on Modern Familymultiple times over the years. Both last appeared in the season five finale, which saw Pepper try to stage a perfect wedding for Cam and Mitch and a very pregnant Sal rush off to the hospital so she could give birth to a child whose father was apparently not her new boyfriend.

ABC has put in development The Greater Good, a single-camera comedy, which Banks is executive producing and attached to direct in what would be her TV directing gig. Written by Miss Guided creator Caroline Williams, The Greater Good is described as comedic X-Files, a relationship/workplace comedy set in the world of conspiracy theories. The project hails from 20th Century Fox TV and Banks and Handelman’s Brownstone Prods. Williams, Banks and Handelman executive produce.

On if she ever had a career low: “There were a couple of auditions…one of them for a slasher film. I was going to be naked and get my neck slashed in a bathtub. I was like, I might be broke right now, but I’ll figure out another way to pay the rent.”

Her response to the question: Which actress has the best career in Hollywood?
“I don’t compare my career to other women’s; I compare my career to men’s. Why would I compare my career to the women’s? They’re not making as much money. And they don’t get to work as much. So I compare myself to Paul Rudd. He’s gotten way more opportunities than I have.”

Fans should prepare their vocal chords as the beloved all-girls a capella group, Barden Bellas, will be back for another round of songs in “Pitch Perfect 2.” Elizabeth Banks is taking the helm for the sequel of the film.

However, latest spoilers state that the musical group will break up. Banks spilled the beans about the plot of the second film to Yahoo! Movies, and she hinted that the band members will go their separate ways.

“They’re coming to the end of their time as Bellas and figuring out how to sort of leave the nest and the comfort of each other’s friendship and figure out what they’re going to do with the rest of their lives,” Banks told Yahoo! Movies.

The second film will deal with the coming of age of the characters as the girls’ graduation is impending, and it will affect their relationships and performances. A photo posted by actress Rebel Wilson on Twitter offered a sneak peek of the movie, showing the friendship of the Bellas. The photo showed the girls in the middle of a pillow fight.

In terms of musical influences, it will have appearances of a cappella groups Pentatonix, the Filharmonic, and Penn Masala. “It’s all about authenticity in the a capella world. We really want to honor that and honor the people who are really doing it out there who we’re inspired by when we make the movie,” Banks added.

The first “Pitch Perfect” film is a standalone film. However, the overwhelming fan base of the movie demanded a sequel. It could be less appealing to people who found the first film distasteful, but loyal fans will surely shed a tear when the girls pass the torch to their successors.

“Pitch Perfect 2” stars Becca (Anna Kendrick), Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson), and Jesse (Skylar Astin), and it will show the characters’ senior year in college. The film will hit the theaters on May 15, 2015.

After years in front of the camera, Elizabeth Banks, is finally the boss. The 40-year-old Hunger Games star is making her directorial debut with next summer’s highly-anticipated sequel to Pitch Perfect.

Given all the musical numbers, dancing, and other moving parts required for the follow-up to the cult-favorite acapella singing comedy, she admitted to Yahoo Movies, “it was a very ambitious endeavor for a first timer.

With the cameras freshly finished rolling – production wrapped about a month ago – here’s what we learned as we grilled her on Pitch Perfect 2, due in theaters on May 15, 2015.

Thanks Lilian for the HQs

If you’re one of the many “Pitch Perfect” lovers hoping the sequel will be as aca-mazing as the first film, Elizabeth Banks has your back.

The actress got behind the camera to direct “Pitch Perfect 2” and has been keeping fans in mind as she’s now editing the film ahead of its release next May.

“It’s very exciting — and harrowing, and nerve-wracking,” she laughed. “I really want to put out a great movie that fans love.”

Directing the follow-up to the 2012 musical hit, Banks told CBS News, was “a really amazing experience.”

“I loved working with all the collaborators, from the actors to the screenwriters to the set designer to the [director of photography] — all across the board I just had amazing partners, and it was that collaborative process that was very gratifying,” she said. “And I liked being the boss!”

One of the themes of “Pitch Perfect 2” is the transition from college to adulthood, Banks revealed.

“The first movie was about that transition into college, everybody was an incoming freshman, and now we’re telling a story about that transitional time when you have to leave the nest and planning for your life and what your ambitions are, goals for your future, and having to say goodbye to the friends you made and go out into the big, bad world,” she explained. Singing, naturally, will be involved as well — “While making a lot of music with their mouths.”
